Private schools on top 2 levels
Charter, religious institutions in Wayne Co. earn
exemplary, commendable rankings from state
PALLADIUM-ITEM • May 9, 2009
Wayne County's private schools were ranked among the state's top two rungs of
its ranking system, scoring exemplary and commendable, according to data
released by the Indiana Department of Education.
Galileo Charter School, Richmond Academy, Community Christian and Seton
Elementary School all were ranked exemplary. Seton High School was ranked
commendable.
The rankings, which are part of Indiana's Public Law 221, are determined by how
well schools perform on the state's ISTEP exam, and how well they progress over
a three-year period. A school's Adequate Yearly Progress status, a provision of
the federal No Child Left Behind law, is also used to determine the ranking.
Schools are ranked, from highest to lowest, as exemplary, commendable, academic
progress, academic watch and probation.
Most public schools in the county remained or slipped into academic watch
status. One school was placed on probation.
